Two months after launching CuraHuman LLC I reconnected with a transformative HR professional. Julie Turney and I had met early in the pandemic. She offered HR for HR support and was in the stage of pursuing her small business work. A few short years later this entrepreneur has blossomed globally to serve any HR professional that seeks support. Recently we joined each other live on her podcast HR Sound Off. HR is the heart of your organization, its the fabric of your interwoven cloth that embeds the experience of every individual in a collective fashion to form the workforce keeping your business alive. That heart can only beat well paced and strong if leadership is elevating the HR voice.
Unity at work is possible, the organizations that have had success are usually the ones that invested in their HR function with intentionality and purpose. The HR Sound Off podcast has been created to help shed light on some of the many misconceptions about the Human Resources profession. What is the most absurd thing you may have heard about HR? Too many times we have none HR professionals speaking authoritatively on the industry with misinformation and inaccuracy. You can tap into the podcast at https://hrsoundoff.podbean.com/page/7/ to hear from genuine HR professionals their core of being and perhaps learn something new about the most important function in an organization, Human Resources.
Our session held space for an authentic conversation that most HR professionals cannot or will not have with their own leaders or peers for various reasons. Here are some highlights:
- I spoke without code-switching on this podcast embracing my Trinidadian accent and voice, an authenticity that professionally has been missing
- Cultural principles brought to the HR profession: mastery of doing a lot with a little (resiliency)
- Transferable skills are valuable skills, you can choose HR as a career with purpose!
- We as HR professionals did not come here to settle, ever
- HR professionals are often lost in their identity, underserved, under-valued, under-appreciated, and under-invested
- Dual decision-making is an illusion, seek perspective, and rest to recharge
- Self-care creates selfless leaders, give yourself grace!
- Consciously assess your alignment-find your whole care balance
- Browbeating (coerce, intimidation, abuse, force, bully, oppression) is WAY too common in the HR industry (probably because mostly women and minorities are in this field)
- Human Resources leaders will be the next set of CEO’s
- Attune to what you want to learn next to move you forward
- HR professionals can be for the people and for the business
